Position: In-House Children’s Program Facilitator– Part Time
Hourly Rate: $18 per hour *non-negotiable, based on program rate
Hours of work: Saturdays in Etobicoke – 3 hours
Start Date: Candidates must be available to start March 2025
Location: Online and/or In-Person (North York and Etobicoke locations)
In-House Children’s Program Facilitator:
Program instructor and group facilitator for children ages 7-13.
The goal of our In-House Program Portfolio is to provide specialized programming to children and youth with Learning Disabilities(LDs) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(AD(H)D). Our Programs provide a comfortable and receptive environment where participants can improve their typing, social skills and academic skills. Many students with a Learning Disability have difficulties in these areas and require explicit instruction and support in developing these skills. Our leaders are trained to understand and guide children and youth through the process with sensitivity to their individual needs.
Candidates must demonstrate a proven understanding, knowledge and sensitivity of the LD community and individuals with disabilities.
Our Programs focus on:
Tutoring:
· Assist participants with homework and remedial academic skills (reading, writing, math)
Job Duties:
• Be present and punctual for your shifts
• Teach classes and deliver curriculum online and/or in-person
• provide support for children with behavioural challenges and special needs
• Supervise and manage individuals and groups of children between the ages of 7-13
• Guide children to acquire new skills while allowing them to progress at their own pace
• Organize and facilitate the programming required; cater to individual needs
• Document each child’s progress on a weekly basis in relation to their personal goals and the goals of the program. This will include daily report logs to document their progress
• Provide a safe, unbiased, and non-judgmental environment for both the participants and fellow co-workers
• Develop behavioral and academic support plans for students
• Discuss the participant’s progress in a positive manner to their parents and guardians
• Keep in strict confidence any confidential information
• Introduce and practice strategies for working with students with Learning Disabilities and/or AD(H)D
• Report to the Program Admin with weekly updates, questions or concerns
• Carry out responsibilities, as directed by the Program Admin with professionalism, dignity and integrity
• Work cooperatively with co-workers and program management via team meetings, supervisory discussions
• Other duties as assigned by Program Admin
Skills & Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree (Social Sciences, Social / Support Work, Sociology, Education, Psychology or related studies
· College Diploma (Social Service Worker, ECE or Child and Youth Care)
· Understanding Learning Disabilities (LDs) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD(H)D), barriers individuals face in everyday life and integration, services that are available to assist integration and accommodation.
· Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Google Suite, Google Classroom, etc
· Excellent facilitation and one to one coaching skills
· Strong organizational and time management skill, attention to detail
· Clear and effective written and oral communication /presentation skills
· Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competency, with demonstrated high level of communication ability – listening, spoken and written
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching or facilitating groups of up to 12 children, ages 7-13
· Experience working with children living with disabilities (Learning Disabilities, AD(H)D)
· First Aid/CPR certification
· A valid Vulnerable Sector’s Criminal Record Check
• Access to a car and valid driver’s license would be an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who have flexible availability and can work within more than 1 program.
This is a part-time contract position from March- June 30, 2025. Candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends.
