OUT SAMUThe Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is a non-profit organization working independently from MacEwan University to support students. Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their non-academic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services.
We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. With support from over 50 full- and part-time staff, we keep our mandate student-focused to achieve the vision.

PURPOSE
The main focus of the Events Assistant position is two-fold. The first is to support the Events Team by assisting in the research, promoting, and planning of various events components including vendors, artists, prizing, potential partners etc. The second is to support the Events Team with the execution of SAMU events including day of logistics, technical requirements, and volunteer coordination.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Planning, Logistics and Operations 90%
• Assist the Events department in the planning and execution of events on campus, including prep, set-up and tear down of the event
• Assist with selecting, training, and supervising of event specific volunteers
• Deliver one or more new programming initiative(s) as mutually agreed within events team. Ongoing, passive events, and one-off events.
• Research and identify potential prizing, vendors, local artists, and partners
• Assist with the creation of resources that help the Events team to acquire and document information from research initiatives. (Smart Forms, Surveys, promo/marketing requests etc.)
• Assist with registration for events, tabling, ticket distribution, etc.
• Research and brainstorm ideas and trends as needed
• Assist with creating event checklists and live event resources – for Events Department or for up to three select student groups per year, as assigned
• Other – (10%)
• Collaborate with members across departments within SAMU to support other events-based or promotional initiatives

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall 2025 or Winter 2026 term.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office or related softwarePossess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work co-operatively within a team
• Embrace a growth mindset, feedback, and open communication with collaborators.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• General Knowledge of SAMU programs and servicesExperience with other online tools and technology is considered an asset .
• Driver’s License (and access to a vehicle)
• WHMIS
• ProServe
• Risk Assessment and Management
• Knowledge of live music events or technical background is considered an asset
WORKING CONSIDERATIONS
• Sedentary with Light Physical Effort – Sitting, Standing, Walking, Kneeling, Lifting – up to 50 pounds, Manual Dexterity
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Up to 30 hours/ week Aug 5, 2025 – August 30, 2025, and up to 20 hours/week Sept 1, 2025-April 30, 2026, with office hours between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Will work around the student’s schedule. Some evening and weekend work may be required for this position.
