Controller/Bookkeeper (Permanent Part-Time)

We are a premier craft distillery producing world-class whisky and gin for the luxury market worldwide. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Controller/Bookkeeper to take charge of our financial operations and support our business with strong financial management and strategic insights.
This role is ideal for a highly organised and detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a dynamic environment. You will work independently but collaborate closely with the owners, overseeing all accounting functions while also playing a key role in HR and financial strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
• Maintain accurate accounting records for Sales, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, payroll, and taxes.
• Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare weekly and monthly sales and financial reports to support decision-making.
• Manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting to optimise financial health.
• Prepare and file monthly tax remittances, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
• Assist with financial planning, including recommending financial benchmarks to measure company performance.
• Lead and coordinate the annual year-end process, working with external accountants as needed.
Human Resources & Administration
• Oversee payroll processing and benefits administration.
• Assist in staffing, on-boarding, and HR policy development.
• Manage the company’s Group Insurance Plan, ensuring smooth administration.
Process Improvement & Strategic Support
• Continuously improve financial processes and reporting to enhance efficiency.
• Provide financial insights to help drive growth, manage risk, and support strategic planning.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• CPA designation (or equivalent experience) with 3–5 years in a similar role.
• Experience with QuickBooks Desktop, POS systems (Clover), and Excel is an asset.
• Prior experience in retail, hospitality, or the alcohol industry is beneficial.
• Highly organised and detail-oriented, with strong time management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with team members and external partners.
• Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to support financial health and business strategy.
• Proactive, takes initiative, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
