Job Description

Entry level position whose main responsibility is safety of all team members and customers using the complex. Range Safety Officer (“RSO”) should have extensive knowledge about the operation of Firearm Ranges and firearms. This position adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (“SOPs”), County Policies and provides assistance to shooters utilizing the range. The RSO will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities on the range.

Primary duties include conducting and supervising safe shooting activities for all shooters, assisting with training classes, conducting range inspections, reporting any repairs needed to the range, performing minor range repairs, and keeping the range clean and tidy. The position will report directly to the Executive Range Officer, Chief Range Officer, and the Range Director.

Thursday 9:30 am – 7:30 pm
Friday 9:30 am – 7:30 pm
Saturday 9:30 am – 7:30 pm
Sunday 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Monday Closed

Winter

Tuesday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Wednesday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Thursday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Friday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Saturday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Sunday 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Essential Functions
• Ensure strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
• Monitor all activity on the shooting lanes to maintain a safe shooting environment
• Inspect firearms for obstructions
• Inspect ammunition brought to the range for compliance with regulations
• Assist customers with appropriate range, lane, and target operation
• Promote and smoothly execute instructions, programs, and shooting events
• Know and follow emergency response plans when required
• Assist in performing opening and closing procedures
• Keep ranges sanitary and neat
• Work as a team player with all staff
• Communicate professionally and courteously with everyone
• Adhere to County Policy and Procedures and Range Policy and Procedures
• Perform activities around the range including but not limited to emptying garbage and brass collection
• Assist customers by answering questions and providing firearms information

Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to firearms instruction and safety. Considerable knowledge of firearms, ammunition, and safety standards. General knowledge of firearms inspection and range target systems. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills that enable them to interface with patrons in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public.
Experience

& Education

High school diploma or GED and 3-5 years’ experience in firearms use/safety and weapons maintenance/repair, competition match experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; frequent standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting; occasional sitting and speaking or hearing; work requires distance vision, ability to adjust focus and depth perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data;

work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working with explosives, and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
Special Requirements

Must obtain concealed weapon permit within six months of employment.
Must obtain NRA Range Safety Officer Certification.
Valid driver’s license.
