Nestled in the scenic Edmonton River Valley, you will spend your summer outside and make some new animal friends while you are at it! As a Wrangler, you will be a key member of the Animal Welfare team that will assist with the safe and successful operation of our animal husbandry program, including wagon and pony ride operations. Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to complete all work tasks in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.

What will you do:
• Work with draft horses, light horses, ponies, oxen, cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry
• Operate pony rides
• Assist a team of experienced Teamsters to operate horse-drawn wagon rides
• Groom, clean, feed, and care for horses and other livestock to ensure they are well cared for and in optimal health. This may include cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry
• Upkeep and maintenance of animal pens, facilities and equipment in alignment with departmental practices
• Provide information to the general public regarding animal health, as well as site information on an on-going basis
• Perform other related work as required

Qualifications
• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent or higher
• Current Standard First Aid
• Equine First Aid is an asset
• Minimum 3 years of experience working with farm animals, specifically horses.
• Minimum 3 years of horse riding experience

Conditions of Employment:
• Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position.
• Hire is dependent on Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position

Up to 8 Temporary Part-Time positions for up to 11 months

Successful candidates may be eligible for recall in the 2026 season

Hours of work: Up to 35 hours per week. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required (Wednesday-Sunday as the predominant work days during May-September).

Salary: $20.320 (Hourly)
