Position: Summer Student- Land Titles Clerk

Term: April 28, 2025- up to 16 weeks

Compensation: $20.71 per hour

We are currently seeking a Summer Student, Land Titles Clerk, for our office located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Reporting to the Title Services Manager, the successful applicant will be assisting with all day-to-day Titles activities.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Supporting the OAHS mission and vision and making significant contributions to the achievement of the corporate strategic plan;
• Manage day to day administrative aspects of the Titles Department, ensuring files are kept up to date, scanning and saving file documents and assisting the Title Services manager where required;
• Effectively communicate relevant and accurate Titles information to OAHS staff and the public in a professional manner;
• Maintain electronic and manual filing systems and Titles database systems;
• Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
• Knowledge of and an appreciation of Indigenous culture and a values system that believes in holistic wellness and in assisting people to become and stay safely housed;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a highly motivated, professional, and results-oriented team;
• Support OAHS’s mission and vision and make contributions to the achievement of the corporate strategic plan;
• Working towards a Diploma in a related field (Law Clerk, Legal Office Administration, Law and Justice, Paralegal, etc.) would be an asset;
• Knowledge of some basic legal concepts, real estate principles and terminology would be an asset;
• Some knowledge of Affordable housing programs and legislation (e.g., Tenant Protection Act, National Housing Act, Housing Services Act, Freedom of Information Act ) to assist in the administration of programs and ensure compliance of proponents with Ministry standards would be an asset;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Power Point);
• Strong organizational, investigative, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to assist with project management, monitoring, and compliance processes;
• Excellent oral and written communications skills;

The successful candidate will have the following Program Requirements:
• Is between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• Was registered as a full-time student in the current academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• Is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; and;
• Is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
