The Job
The primary role of the kindergarten teacher is guided by the Alberta Education Teaching Quality Standards and Professional Code of Conduct.
Responsibilities
• Plan and teach a program, aligned with the Alberta Curriculum and the Kindergarten Program Statement, that develops the physical, social, intellectual, and emotional skills of each child and follows the policies and philosophy of the school.
• Develop a language rich program with a focus on early literacy and numeracy.
• Adapt the program to the needs of the individual child with consideration for their strengths, interests, and areas for growth.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support neurodiverse learners.
• Use formative and summative assessments to guide instructional decisions.
• Develop, implement, and assess Individualized Program Plans.
• Communicate regularly with parents and community partners.
• Onboard, guide and supervise educational assistants.
General Teaching Duties include:
• Plan, prepare and teach a program to develop and achieve curriculum outcomes.
Select and use neuro-affirming, play-based, engaging instructional methods appropriate to each child’s strengths and developmental level.
• Create a safe and respectful classroom environment. Develop and implement an effective classroom guidance plan.
• Prepare report cards and Individual Program Plans.
• Perform required administrative duties including attending meetings.
• Uphold organizational and school policies, rules and procedures in a supportive and positive manner.
• Regularly provide EAs with guidance and feedback.
• Develop an annual Teacher Growth Plan.

• A commitment to the development, progress, and inclusion of neurodiverse children with complex needs.
Requirements
• Bachelor of Education and Alberta teaching certification.
• Minimum of three to five years teaching experience in the early years, including kindergarten.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Deep understanding of early childhood and early brain development.
• Knowledge and experience teaching autistic children.
• Experience working with children on communication/speech/language is an asset.
• Computer literacy including Word, Excel and online teaching platforms.
• Proficiency in the English language both oral and written. Other languages would be an asset.
• A current criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
Working Conditions
The kindergarten teacher must be able to:
• lift up to 30 pounds.
• work actively with children including bending, sitting, standing, walking and moving/playing as needed.
The kindergarten teacher typically works from late August through June. Work hours may vary, the current position is .6 FTE for the afternoon class at our Village Square Mall NE location. The kindergarten program runs Monday through Thursday from 12:30 – 3:40 pm. Fridays are flexible and used for team meetings and planning. The start date is August 21, 2025
