HALFWAY HOUSE – RELIEF STAFF
The Alberta Seventh Step Society is a Not-For-Profit, self-help agency working with adults involved in the criminal justice system. Resumes are currently being accepted for casual relief personnel at our Halfway House (Community Residential Facility) in Calgary. The Facility houses 35 adult male Federal offenders who are serving on Parole. The Seventh Step organization provides a supportive environment for the successful reintegration of offenders into the community. Staff work directly with Correctional Services of Canada, Calgary Parole and many other community agencies.
Job duties and requirements for relief staff mirror that of full-time Caseworkers and are listed below. The Seventh Step CRF is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week operation and relief staff are essential in the support of full-time staff and the smooth operation of the facility.
It is important to note that only resumes will be accepted of those individuals who have a broad range of availability including but not limited to weekdays, weeknights, weekends, overnight shifts and holidays. Expected shift hours are: overnight shift 10pm-8am, day shift 7am-3pm and afternoon shift from 2:30pm-10:30pm.
Relief employees are given first consideration when permanent positions become available.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
• A Degree/Diploma in Human Services and/or experiential knowledge of the Criminal Justice/Self-Help process is preferred
• Eligible to obtain Federal security clearance in accordance with Correctional Services of Canada
• Posses a working knowledge of computer usage (e.g. Microsoft Word, email, etc.)
• Standard First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain in a timely fashion
• Willingness to obtain Naloxone training in a timely fashion
• Ability to document and communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing
• Ability to monitor safety of staff, residents and facility and take action as required
• Ability to create positive change relationships with residents and be clearly aware of professional boundaries at all times
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment to develop solutions to arising issues or concerns
• Capability of physical demands to perform CRF walkthroughs and live wellness checks of residents along with room inspections and searches
• General house keeping duties and chores
• Wide range of shift availability including days, evenings, overnights and holidays
